Very few people are born with natural public speaking ability. But most of us are born with the “tools” to be effective speakers. These tools are legs, eyes, arms, and voice.
Because of limited instructional time, the development of speaking skills is often left to “older” children. We must teach the children at a young age.
This manual was written for Kindergarten and Elementary Grade students. These are the ideal grades in which to learn and practice public speaking skills. This can be done just by teaching the basic ground rules in this manual and by providing much practice in all areas of the curriculum.
The lessons are designed to be presented sequentially. For grades K thru 3, it is recommended that you start each school year with the first lesson and depending on the maturity and experience of your students, do as many lessons as you can. Parents of upper elementary grade students (grades 4 to 6+) could use the book as a learning base, adding and fine-tuning to higher expectations.
Before you begin to teach the lessons, I encourage you to read through the whole manual. This way you will attain an overall understanding of the program and valuable insight of what to expect.
